ThermaClad 446 is a submerged arc deposit that dilutes carbon from high carbon base metals to avoid retained austenite. It is intended for use as an underlay or butter layer, not as an overlay.

*Hardness will depend on how much carbon is picked up from base metal during welding. 25-30 HRC is typical with 1 layer over 0.80 carbon steel.
