ESAB has expanded its Exaton NiCrMo-4 filler metal product line with the introduction of Exaton Ni56 strip electrode for electro-slag cladding (ESW). This nickel-chromium-molybdenum electrode is designed for corrosion-resistant weld deposits of Ni6276/UNS N10276 type (“C-276”) and is ideal for chemical or petrochemical industries specifically to protect components made of low-alloy base materials. Exaton Ni56 is available as 30 x 0.5 and 60 x 0.5 mm strips. It is designed for use in combination with Exaton 69S flux, has a particularly high resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking, and offers excellent slag removal and bead appearance.
“Exaton Ni56 strip has an SFA/AWS A5.14 EQNiCrMo-4 and an ISO 18274 B Ni6276 (NiCr15Mo16Fe6W4) classifications. Because of its restricted chemical composition, the weld deposit has an SFA/AWS A5.39 ESCLAD2-EQNiCrMo-4, preserving the metallurgical properties of the strip,” says Paolo Torchiana, Global Product Manager, ESAB. “Weld deposits made with Exaton Ni56 have a carbon content matching the relevant A5.39 requirements and lower carbon content compared to other products, which experience greater dilution.”
Cladding is required for critical applications in the pressure vessel, oil and gas, nuclear, and chemical processing industries. Exaton Ni56 has a weld deposit with a critical pitting corrosion temperature per ASTM G48-C at 70ºC. In the as-welded condition, deposits have a typical hardness of <230 HV10; after post-weld heat treatment (12 hours at 610ºC), it has a hardness of <250 HV10.
At ESAB, we exist to shape the future of welding and cutting. We connect fabricators with the widest range of products under our industry-leading brand portfolio with the latest technologies to solve virtually any industry challenge — then we back it up with our knowledge, experience and passion to help them be more productive than ever before.
