ThermoProfilScanner is an optical thermal field measuring device that could record the temperatures on a line up to 400 times per second. Its patented design has a glassless construction, characterised by the thermal field camera and is appropriate to use for permanent usage near the welding processes. There is a slot of 18*1 mm, used for measurement, and it closes automatically when no shielding gas is supplied.
The usability of the ThermoProfilScanner is to record welding irregularities from the temperature field of the welding seam that is solidifying and also glowing. As the characteristics of the welding seam quality and temperature field are directly linked, irregularities like weld holes, offset, or penetration can be detected easily. This device is an integral part of the WeldOAS monitoring system. This device is specially designed and vital for welding methods, including high frequency induction, plasma, TIG, and laser, used in seamless pipe production and has replaced eddy current testing to a significant extent.
Each measurement in ThermoProfilScanner generates a temperature profile that is perpendicular to the seam, which in turn is a thermal pattern created because of the welding movement. These temperature measurements allow drawing conclusions about the thermal conduction in the workpiece. It leads to identifying surface effects such as the position of the welding seam, weld penetration grooves, holes, open pores, etc., along with the internal effects like weld penetration depth, root formation, symmetry of weld penetration, etc. The digitalised thermal profiles are further sent to the WeldOAS device, where every profile is saved, checked, verified, shown and monitored.
The characteristic values, like the width of the thermal zone, symmetry, maximum temperature, etc., are evaluated from each thermal profile. The values which have come in the past or have already been set, and the expectations are compared simultaneously. If the tolerance limit is exceeded, warning signals will be triggered, defective points will be marked, and the welding process can be stopped at that time only. The characteristics and thermal patterns fetched from here get saved in WeldOAS and can be allocated to welding seams further.
ThermoProfilScanner can be used and is suitable for all the applications as below.
