ESAB has introduced the Renegade ES 210i inverters for MMA and Live TIG welding and the Renegade ET 210iP and ET 210iP Advanced inverters for pulsed TIG welding with high frequency (HF) TIG arc starts. These units offer an industry-leading combination of premium arc performance, power, portability, and full-feature controls. They use 1Ph, 115/220 VAC mains power ± 15%, 50/60 Hz for location flexibility. Renegade units have a built-in active Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit that allows the machine to work perfectly even on a poor-quality power supply and on very long extension cables (up to 100m).
Renegade 1Ph units weigh just 11 kg and measure 460 x 200 x 320 mm. Their signature three-handle housing is IP23 rated; it features a composite housing that can withstand extreme impacts and drops. Easy-to-grab front, rear and top handles provide the operator maximum flexibility for lifting the machine, and handles are constructed and positioned to protect connectors and the panel from rough welding environments. Operators can easily navigate obstacles, climb stairs, pass through manholes and lift the unit onto racks, making Renegade an optimal welding machine for applications such as ship and offshore yards, construction, pipe, repair and maintenance, and heavy fabrication.
Renegade replaces ESAB’s popular Caddy Arc and Caddy Tig welders, while inheriting the strengths of both. “When welding with the MMA process, the new Renegade minimizes spatter and creates a stable, more controllable weld pool. It can deliver a stable welding arc even if mains (primary) voltage fluctuates,” said Bartosz Kutarba, Global Product Manager – Light Industry Equipment, ESAB. “Our Renegade 300-amp model received the prestigious Red Dot Award for product design. The single-phase Renegade 180- and 210-amp models build on the success of this next-generation shop and field machine for DC welding, helping improve weld quality and productivity for operators of all skill levels.”
Renegade ES and ET models offer identical MMA arc performance. MMA features include adjustable Hot Start, which fine tunes the optimal energy during the arc starting sequence for improved strike performance and reduced sticking. Similarly, an Adjustable Arc Force function enables the operator to adjust the arc characteristics to be crisper or softer, tailoring the arc for different electrodes, applications, and operator preferences. Preferences can be stored in one of three memory functions.
Renegade ET 210iP provide HF arc starts for applications requiring non-contact arc starts and Lift TIG for arc starts without HF. They also provide adjustable gas pre- and post-flow, adjustable upslope/downslope, 2- and 4-stroke trigger functionality and offer remote control compatibility. A dual-current mode trigger function switches between two output current levels to control heat input and size of the weld pool. Users access all TIG weld sequence controls directly from the operator interface.
The Renegade ET 210iP Advanced builds upon the ET 210iP with significant upgrades, featuring a 4.3-inch color TFT (thin-film transistor) control interface that is as advanced as its welding performance. The 110mm-wide color display, combined with two soft keys and a rotary knob, enables users to access all welding functions intuitively and conveniently. “The Renegade ET 210iP Advanced interface is designed for operators who can easily visualize the entire TIG welding sequence,” said Bartosz Kutarba, Global Product Manager for Light Industrial Equipment at ESAB. “The advanced display allows operators to set and adjust all the features expected from a high-performance TIG/MMA welder, including pulse adjustments, more quickly and efficiently. Once preferences are configured, they can be saved in one of the ten memory slots for future quick recall.” The color TFT display supports multiple languages and provides useful information on consumables, welding materials, and maintenance guidance for operators.
Renegade ET models also provide a pulsed TIG output adjustable between 0.1 and 999 pulses per second (PPS) and a peak pulse amperage duration that is adjustable between 10 and 90%. Fabricators working with stainless steel, chrome-moly, thin metals, and other heat-sensitive applications use pulsed TIG to reduce heat input, narrow the weld profile, and increase travel speed. A slow frequency, such as 1 PPS, acts as a metronome so welders can establish a good cadence for adding filler rod, which helps when learning to weld. Renegade ET is also available with a water-cooled option. Its modular design allows for tool-free connection of the cooling unit.
