New Swift-Laser Pro combines precision laser cutting with intuitive operation, durable construction and Swift-Cut’s established global network of service and support.
North Bethesda, Md. – Swift-Cut, an ESAB brand, launched its first CNC fiber laser cutting system, the Swift-Laser Pro, with live demonstrations in booth #S29025 at FABTECH 2026 in Las Vegas. The Swift-Laser Pro is initially available in 3kW and 6kW laser power options with a 5 x 10-ft. cutting area and a manual pull-out pallet changer. A 12kW configuration with automatic pallet changer will launch in Q1 2027. The Swift-Laser Pro combines high-performance laser components, such as a Max Photonics Elite series fiber laser source and Raytools BS08K cutting head and controller. Systems start at approximately $130,000.
The Swift-Laser Pro provides pre-programmed cutting parameters to simplify setup. With a user-friendly and intuitive touch-screen interface, the operator selects the material type (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel and brass), plate thickness and assist gas; the system then automatically applies all the appropriate cutting parameters, speeds and other variables essential for a narrow kerf, square corners, cylindrical holes and other precision features.
“The Swift-Laser Pro makes fiber laser technology approachable for operators who may be using laser cutting for the first time,” says Scott Wirtanen, VP Sales – North America, Swift-Cut Automation. “We eliminated the need to manually populate the cutting data and machine controls, a source of frustration for first-time users.”
The Swift-Laser Pro’s dual-touchscreen HMI provides control of the entire cutting process, while the CNC controller provides automatic sheet-edge detection, automatic part sorting and toolpath generation, fly cutting, kerf/path compensation, pre-piercing and multistage piercing, optimized corner cutting, breakpoint recovery and custom material profiles. Anti-collision technology combines CNC control with high-speed Z-axis retraction to detect and avoid potential collisions during complex cutting operations. Additional productivity features include 6X lightning piercing for faster piercing cycles, automatic nozzle cleaning to increase cutting time, auto-focus positioning and automatic calibration. A second cutting head is provided for quick swap-out and minimized downtime, while zoned downdraft extraction and network capability are standard.
Swift-Cut has an installed base of more than 5,000 CNC cutting systems worldwide, including nearly 1,000 systems in the United States, providing an established service and application support infrastructure for Swift-Laser Pro customers. TeamViewer remote technical assistance is integrated into the Swift-Laser Pro, while the My Swift-Cut app for iOS and Android smartphones provides another way to quickly access application and technical support.
“Laser is a significant investment, and the machine itself is only part of that investment,” says Wirtanen. “Customers need to know who is going to help them get the application right and who will be there when they need support. We’ve built our reputation around quality, reliability and customer support, and we’re bringing that same approach to laser.”
The Swift-Laser Pro can cut mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel and brass, with production cut thicknesses shown in Table. 1. For thin- to medium-thickness applications, fiber lasers offer the fastest cutting speeds while producing a narrow kerf, small features and accurately cut holes.
The Swift-Laser Pro 3-kW model cuts 1/8-in. mild steel at 138 to 165 ipm and 1/4-in. steel at 91 to 110 ipm using oxygen, providing an entry point for shops primarily cutting thinner sheet. The 6-kW model expands the general-purpose production range, cutting 1/4-in. mild steel at 98 to 122 ipm with oxygen while providing greater capacity for stainless steel and aluminum. For higher-volume applications, the 12-kW model cuts 1/4-in. mild steel at 315 to 472 ipm using nitrogen or compressed air, while providing production cutting capacity up to 1-in. mild steel and an automatic pallet changer to handle heavy plate.
“Fiber laser ROI isn’t only about how fast the machine cuts,” adds Wirtanen. “It’s also what happens after the part comes off the table. Laser can produce smaller, more precise features and excellent hole quality with little to no slag or cleanup. When you reduce drilling, grinding and other secondary operations, you’re reducing labor and getting finished parts downstream faster.”
The Swift-Laser Pro combines precision linear rails on all axes with Yaskawa servo motors and drives for precise, repeatable motion control, with linear positional accuracy specified at 0.0015 in. per meter and repeatability of 0.0011 in. per meter. The fully welded heavy-duty base and rigid gantry provide the stability required as the cutting head accelerates at rates up to 1.0 G, while the servo-driven motion system provides rapid traverse speeds up to 65.6 ft./min.
The Swift-Laser Pro’s fully enclosed construction creates a controlled cutting environment while enhancing operator safety. A zoned downdraft extraction system removes cutting particles from the work area. For material handling, the 3-kW and 6-kW system features a manual pull-out cutting deck that provides access from three sides or overhead. Operators pull out the deck to load a sheet, return it to the enclosure and close the powered vertical door for cutting. After the cycle, the deck can be pulled out again for convenient removal of finished parts and the remaining skeleton.
Multiple viewing windows and four high-resolution cameras mounted above the cutting deck give operators visibility into machine operation, while a color-coded status beacon communicates operating conditions, errors and safety warnings. A full-height personnel access door facilitates machine maintenance and service.
