Denton, Texas – ESAB and Western Welding Academy successfully completed a major stop on the 2026 Blue Collar Tour at ESAB’s manufacturing and distribution facility in Denton, Texas. As part of the ESAB Future Fabricators program, the company brought together more than 175 students, educators, welding professionals and industry partners for a hands-on event designed to inspire careers in the skilled trades.
“ESAB is proud to be returning as a sponsor of this year’s Blue Collar Tour and expanding the impact of its Future Fabricators Program,” says Albert Miller, U.S. Vice President of Distribution Sales, ESAB. “Through the excitement and education of tour events, we help students, parents and school counselors understand that welding is a great career with many avenues for progressional growth.” For more details on ESAB’s support for education, instructors and students, visit the ESAB Future Fabricators web page.
“If we’re ever going to have a chance at influencing the youth and really shaping their desire to be successful in life, we’re going to have to get down on their level, eye to eye with them, and reach them through social media and the Blue Collar Tour,” says Tyler Sasse, founder of Western Welding Academy.
The Blue Collar Tour bus travels around the country with representatives from Western Welding Academy, one of the industry’s most popular trade schools located in Gillette, Wyoming. The school offers a 960-hour pipe welding course and boasts a huge social media following, largely among young people interested in learning a trade. In 2025, the tour generated more than 3.3 million social media impressions in just 60 days.
“The Blue Collar Tour changed the narrative on how we communicate about welding careers,” says Justin LaFond, an applications engineer with ESAB who provides on-site support for many of the stops on the Blue Collar. “We are making welding cool again with events that have the type of energy you’d find at a state fair or rodeo. We’re making a huge impact by doing things differently.”
The Denton event attracted 18 schools from Denton to beyond Dallas (see list at end) and representatives from Airgas, Linde, Gas and Supply and New Braunfels Welding Supply. In addition to music, food and welding products available for sale from vendors, all students participated in product giveaways for ESAB including Rogue welders, Victor Oxyfuel outfits, Sentinel and Savage helmets, hats, shirts and other swag.
The main attraction for the event was six hands-on welding and cutting stations using ESAB equipment, all staffed by ESAB experts, Western Welding Academy students/graduates or welding influencers. The opportunities that had students lining up included:
“The Blue Collar tour is great for students. They get to meet industry professionals, experience the newest stuff on the market and try equipment that they might not have access to,” says Mike DePauw, a welding instructor with the Lewisville ISD at the TECC West campus.
Kennth Lewis, a student at TECC West, adds that “I think the Blue Collar Tour event is a great way to connect with younger people. There are five welders retiring for every two welders coming in, so we need events like this to get other people interested in welding. I’m getting welding certifications because I want to be marketable and have a better chance of getting hired when I graduate.”
In addition to attracting students to welding, the Blue Collar Tour reinforces the decision to pursue a career in welding. Duncanville High School, located just south of Dallas, has 225 students in its welding program.
“We were fortunate enough to have the Blue Collar Tour come to our high school last year,” says Duncanville instructor Jason Dial. “We’re grateful they’re back and we have this opportunity in Denton because it keeps my students fired up.”
ESAB and Western Welding Academy, ESAB also collaborated with social media influencers and welding content creators, and Weld.com (@welddotcom) host Beau Wigington MCed the event. With a total follower reach of 4.1 million, these influencers (all welders) are best known to students by their online handles: Kenny (@kenny.steww), KD (@weld._her), Sharon (@miss.welds), Miggie (@datboimiggz), Teddy (@teddyworldd), Matt (@warrior_welding_tx) , Austin (@dr.weldz), Joaquin (@soto.sculpture.studio), Tatum (@tatummaciejack) and Mike (@no_sin_customs).
“All of us are here to help build a better welding community,” says Kenny Stew, a combo rig welder. Combo welders have certifications in multiple processes, such as for TIG welding the root pass on pipe and filling and capping with Stick or flux cored. A rig welder is someone who owns and operates their own truck with a welder in the bed to provide mobile fabrication services.
“Many students dream of becoming a rig welder because they can be their own boss and earn a good income,” says Stew. “Combo rig welders like me can help them avoid pitfalls and help them create a clearer path to better jobs and success in the trades.”
