North Bethesda, Md. – ESAB has introduced Versotrac Cadet, a compact, efficient, and affordable submerged arc welding (SAW) tractor for long fillet or butt welds. Capable of welding with a single wire from 1/160 to 5/32-in. diameter at outputs of up to 1000A at 100 percent duty cycle, the Versotrac Cadet pairs with a wide variety of power sources, including ESAB’s LAF and Aristo® 1000 series power sources for SAW. It features ESAB’s EAC 10 controller, the industry’s most intuitive and straightforward interface.
“We designed the Versotrac Cadet for companies that want to streamline their current SAW operations or step up their productivity from a manual wire welding process,” said Peter Kjällström, Global Product Director – Automation and Handling Equipment, ESAB. “Users can achieve deposition rates up to 11 kg/h with a 4 mm wire while also improving consistency, quality, and working environment for operators.”
Applications include general fabrication of thicker material, beams, ships/barges, offshore and marine structures, tanks and vessels, wind towers, and structural steel construction.
The Versotrac Cadet’s small size makes it easy to move around fabrication sites. It features four wheels for greater stability and comes in 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive models for use with longer welding cables. Its horizontal and vertical slides allow for easy positioning and setting, and its durable construction makes it reliable even in rough environments. Tool-less interaction makes it easy to change weld joint position and switch between butt and fillet welding, and users can switch positions 10 times faster than with competitive tractors. Memory functions on the wire feed pressure and wire straightener further simplify and reduce downtime.
“We developed the Versotrac Cadet with our customer’s processes and applications in mind,” continues Kjällström. “Just about everyone is experiencing a welder shortage. By using the Versotrac Cadet for long, tedious weldments, operators are available to work on more intricate welding needs.”
The EAC 10 controller includes the functions users need for setting the tractor and leaves room on the display for important information like real-time heat input for easy weld quality monitoring. The tractor and control pendant are also designed to change settings from an ergonomically comfortable position.
For more welding versatility, ESAB offers the Versotrac EWT 1000. With quick connectors and automatic weld head detection/setup by the controller, users can switch between the SAW, GMAW, and gouging processes in seconds. It can weld with single wires up to 3/16 in. and up to 1000A @ 100 percent duty cycle or maximize productivity with a twin wire process. ESAB also offers the industry’s leading combination of SAW filler metals, fluxes, power sources, and application engineering knowledge.
